As part of the activities of the project “Responsible youth entrepreneurship: creating a culture of anti-corruption in the private sector”, funded by the European Commission,
YES Foundation organized 5 successful seminars in Albania, from 26th – 30th April. In each of the cities Tirana, Vlore, Saranda, Elbasan and Korca, one seminar was organized.
100 participants took part, such as rectors and university professors, young businessman, representatives from municipalities, representatives from student organizations, and NGOs. Participants gave their opinion on the current situation in Albania, and pointed that one of the reasons that initiate corruptive behavior is the poverty and very low salaries in Albania. Unfortunately it was noticeable that the participants were not very open and ready to talk, since media was present in the seminars.
Results of a research in progress were also presented. 2500 respondents were interviewed and the general conclusion is that people are afraid to report corruption because of the possible consequences. An interesting fact is that 80% of the respondents say they did not pay bribe during the past year.
YES Foundation created a web portal www.beresponsible.biz where one can follow the project activities and get useful information.
YES Foundation in cooperation with the partners continues with the planned activities of the project, in Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Kosovo.
